| Description: | Presented annually to a member of a Â鶹´«Ã½ varsity team who demonstrates outstanding preparation, work ethic, and teamwork; preference will be given to a member of the Women's Basketball team. |
| Background: | Dave 'Hermie' MacNeill is a well-respected member of Â鶹´«Ã½'s extended family and has always had the best interests of the students at heart. MacNeill coached the Â鶹´«Ã½ Panthers women's basketball team from 1978 to 1993 and from 2000 to 2001, is a former executive director of Sport P.E.I. and was the chief executive officer of operations for the 2009 Canada Games. MacNeill coached the Panthers to the national final in 1988-89 and was inducted into the Â鶹´«Ã½ Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. Many people have expressed a tremendous appreciation and respect for Hermie MacNeill and his contributions to the community of Prince Edward Island and its young athletes. This award was originally established by a former Â鶹´«Ã½ Director of Athletics. In January 2021, MacNeill's daughter, Kate Richard decided to continue this award in her father's honour. |
